Research Areas:

Emergent phases in low-dimensional complex transition metal oxides; atomically precise synthesis of novel oxide thin films and interfaces by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE); electronic band structure characterizations by in situ angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES)

Profile:

Nie Yuefeng is a professor, doctoral supervisor and one of the “Global Experts” of China. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Physics at University of Connecticut in 2011 and was engaged in post-doctoral research at the Cornell Center for Materials Research from 2011 to 2014. He started to work at Nanjing University in 2015 and established a laboratory of oxide molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and in situ angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES).

His research focuses on the emergent phases in low-dimensional complex transition metal oxides, including ferroelectricity, ferromagnetism, multiferroicity and high Tc superconductivity, etc. In 2019, he and his collaborations synthesized ultrathin freestanding perovskite oxides down to the monolayer limit, providing new opportunities in the exploration of two-dimensional correlated quantum phases in perovskite oxides. He has taken charge of or participated in many projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Key Basic Research Program (the 973 Program). So far, he has published over 30 papers on influential journals, including Nature and its member journals and Physical Review Letters, etc. He has been invited to presented his works in international conferences, universities and national laboratories for over 40 times. He is currently a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of APL Materials.

Nie’s group welcomes outstanding and hard-working students and scholars who are interested in the research of fundamental and applied physic and materials sciences. The group plans to accept 1-2 Ph.D. students and 2-3 M.S. students every year, and also has openings for postdoctoral researchers.
